“Pancada Motor – Manifesto da Festa”

Pancada Motor is the way people from Baianá, Samba de Matuto and Cambinda (traditions from the Brazilian state of Alagoas) called and still call the rhythm of their cultural doing, wealthy universe that also includes the Caboclinha. I got really impressed with the term Pancada Motor when I knew about its existence; years later I knew a bit more about this culture and it changed me a lot.
This album is the result of my passion for these Brazilian cultures and for the life experience music has provided me since my adolescence. Having as base the Pancada Motor, here I reconnect myself with the anarcho-punk teenager, as well as with the rave (jungle) scene from the beginning of the nineties when I opened the channel to my spiritual world, which is very present in here, since this is an album of DANCE, TRANCE and DREAM. A huge part of this album was done with total freedom to the ones who were putting their music on it, so the instrumental and improvised music can be found in it.

 The Jamaican dub, recreated in London is really important for this work. Mad Professor and Dr. Das, besides being in this album, are, along with Adrian Sherwood and African Head Charge, great inspiration, so here, a small rhythmic cell has several musical unfolding. I remember that it was through a British Council’s scholarship of artistic residence in 2009, that I could enlarge my relation with the sonorous universe of London. Biu, zabumbeiro (musician who plays a traditional drum called zabumba) from Samba de Matuto from Maragogi-Brazil, that plays in almost all album, is a very important person as he is the personification of the Pancada Motor and his zabumba is a unique rhythm machine.
Manifesto of the Party is a multicultural celebration. Here Brazilian traditions are mixed among themselves and among other music and cultures from the world. 

In addition to the Pancada Motor from Alagoas, we have got the rhythm and melodies from Recife’s (capital of the Brazilian state of Pernambuco) Maracatu Cruzeiro do Forte’s Macumba, extremely beautiful and unique tradition, as well as we have got the Marcha de Rua da Marujada from Mogi das Cruzes (city in the Brazilian state of São Paulo).

In the next album “Pancada Motor – Música de encontros, cura e feitiçaria” (Pancada Motor – Songs of meetings, healing and witchcraft) we are going to other pancada motores from Brazil and to many other parts of the world, since here the music is a place of meetings.
I manifest my deep gratitude to all the traditional groups and artists that are present in here with their music, as well as I must affirm that I consider them my fellows and partners of faith in a better world.
 Shall this music be vehicle of good vibration and celebration for all the ones who are touched by it.


Pancada Motor é como os brincantes de Baianá, Samba de Matuto e Cambinda (tradições alagoanas) chamaram e ainda chamam o ritmo do seu fazer cultural, universo riquíssimo que também abrange a Caboclinha. Me impressionei muito com o nome Pancada Motor quando soube de sua existência; anos depois conheci um pouco dessa cultura e isso me transformou muito.
Esse disco é resultado da minha paixão por essas culturas do Brasil e pela vivência que a música tem me proporcionado desde a adolescência. Tendo como base a Pancada Motor, aqui me reconecto com o adolescente anarco punk, também com a cena rave (jungle) do início dos anos 90, momento que abri o canal para o meu mundo espiritual, que aqui é muito presente, pois esse é um disco de DANÇA, TRANSE e SONHO. Boa parte desse disco foi feito com total liberdade para quem estava colocando sua música nele, pois a música instrumental e improvisada está muito presente.

 O dub jamaicano recriado em Londres é importante para esse trabalho. Mad Professor e Dr. Das, além de estarem nesse disco, são juntos com Adrian Sherwood e African Head Charge, grandes inspirações dentro desse projeto, aqui uma pequena célula rítmica tem vários desdobramentos musicais. Lembro que foi através de uma bolsa de residência artística do Brititsh Council em 2009, que pude ampliar minha relação com o universo sonoro de Londres. 
Uma pessoa muito importante é Biu, zabumbeiro do Samba de Matuto de Maragogi-AL, músico que toca em quase todo o disco, ele é a personificação da Pancada Motor e sua zabumba é uma maquina de ritmo única.
O Manifesto da Festa é uma celebração multicultural. Aqui tradições brasileiras são misturadas entre elas e com outras músicas e culturas do mundo. Além da Pancada Motor alagoana, temos o ritmo e melodias da "macumba" do Maracatu Rural Cruzeiro do Forte do Recife-PE, tradição impar e belíssima, assim como também temos a Marcha de Rua da Marujada de Mogi das Cruzes-SP. No próximo disco "Pancada Motor - Música de encontros, cura e feitiçaria" iremos para outras pancada motores do Brasil e para muitas outras partes do mundo, pois aqui a música é um lugar de encontros.
Manifesto minha profunda gratidão a todos os grupos tradicionais e artistas que aqui se fazem presentes com a sua música, bem como os considero meus companheiros e parceiros de fé num mundo melhor.
Que essa música seja veículo de boas vibrações e celebração a todos que sejam tocados por ela.

CREATION SCRIPT - ROTEIRO DE CRIAÇÃO
"P M - MANIFESTO DA FESTA”

Below I share a little bit of the music creation’s chronological process, so the listeners will be able to have an idea of this project’s accomplishment. The album was done with some gaps in time, that is, I started it in 2009 at the same period I was working on the album “Nos quintais do Mundo” (In the backyards of the World), released in 2010. After that I did the DVD “Nos quintais do Mundo Melhor” (In the backyards of the Better World), recorded in 2011 and released in 2012. In this same year I resumed this album that did not have a title; the title “Pancada Motor” was already meant to be the name of the following album, however, during the process I noticed that this current work is also a Pancada Motor.
In my other albums I already used parts and songs of Brazilian traditions. Here I also use them, but I did special recordings to the album with traditional artists as well as I collaborated with artists of several parts of the world, so these albums are more internationalists. These songs are crossroads for the cultures to get in touch and dialogue. Here the idea of circularity, mantra, continuous loop and of being possessed by the music is enclosed. I wish the listeners could be conducted to an excellent trip.



Abaixo divido um pouco do processo cronológico da criação das músicas, assim os ouvintes poderão ter uma ideia da realização dessa obra.
O trabalho foi feito com intervalos de tempo, o comecei em 2009, mesma época em que fazia o disco "Nos quintais do Mundo", lançado em 2010. Em seguida fiz o DVD "Nos quintais do Mundo Melhor", gravado em 2011 e lançado em 2012. Nesse mesmo ano retomei esse disco que não tinha nome; o nome "Pancada Motor" já estava certo como título do disco que sairá depois, no entanto, ao longo do processo vi que esse também é uma Pancada Motor.
Nos meus outros discos já usava trechos e canções das tradições brasileiras; aqui, uso também, porém realizei gravações específicas para o disco com artistas tradicionais e também colaboro mais com artistas de várias partes do mundo, sendo assim esses discos são mais internacionalistas. Essas músicas são encruzilhadas para que culturas se encontrem e dialoguem.
Aqui está contida a ideia da circularidade, do mantra, do loop continuo, de ser possuído pela música.
Espero que os ouvintes possam ser conduzidos a uma excelente viagem.
